The music was recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon in London on July 3, 1973, although the album was not released by RCA Records until 1983. Until then it was only available in pirate edition. The album documents the latest show Bowie performed under his character Ziggy Stardust. Just before the last song he announces: “Of all the concerts on this tour, this particular will stay with us for a long time, as it is not only the last of the tour, but really the last concert we will offer.
